Dingos V Eagles:
The Eagles continue on their unbeaten run in 2010 so far to defeat the Dingos by 38 points. Eagles coach and forward Aaron Falcioni having a big day out kicking a bag of 6, while for the Dingos it was Tim Shaw bagging 4 of the Dingos 5 goals for the evening. The Dingos still hold onto 6th spot on the ladder - but on equal wins with the Wildcats will need to pull up their socks for the remainder of the season to ensure they're still alive heading into September action. For the Eagles this was just another corpse on the way to what appears to be an unbeaten 2010 season. This week they take on the Etobicoke Kangaroos in Round 9 at Humber Sth in an absolute humdinger. This will be the second time these two sides meet since the 2009 Grand Final with the Eagles taking the Roos apart in their round 1 rematch earlier this season. Roos will be heading into this game like a steam train they'll be that pumped for this opportunity to improve on their last couple of efforts against the Eagles. Huge game. Roos V Demons:
After their first ever loss to the Blues last weekend, it is with no surprise that the Roos have come out and thumped the unfortunate Dees. The Dees were backing up after winning their biggest game in the last couple of season against heavily-favoured Broadview Hawks - so it was expected that they would be sluggish playing their second game in 5 days. But full credit should be given to an obviously hungry Roos squad. Previous to this game the normally high-scoring Roos biggest total was 84 points against the Rebels in Round 4. This weeks output is 44 points more than that! The Blues mid-year report card said the Roos would be a scary proposition in the second half of the season, and unfortunately for the rest of the league it appears that they were right. For the Dees at least they had won a game on Monday so it was not all bad news for them this week. Gargoyles V Wildcats:
Looking at the scoreline your first impression would be that the Cats had plenty of opportunities in fact one more shot (19) on goal than the eventual winners with 18. But this is where home ground advantage really helps a side. This would have to be one of the best things going for sides like the Gargoyles, Wildcats and Swans who all have distinct home ground advantages over the many Toronto sides who share Humber North and South. The Hawks UTSC is a relatively new ground so time will tell on the advantages this ground will offer the Hawkers. But obviously the Gargoyles have really taken full advantage of this this season having won all 5 of their games on their home ground and of those victories include quality sides such as the Roos, Dingos and you can now add the scalp of the Wildcats to that list of victims. They played a "home" game against the Blues in Hamilton in round 4 which saw the Blues won easily - you would have to wonder if this would have been a different result had they been on their true home ground at Magaret Green. Guelph now sit equal second with the Blues on 28 points (but are also one game ahead given they played on the Canada Day long weekend). They along with Ottawa will have this upcoming weekend off and a great chance to rest their legs before playing their next opponents in Round 10. Swans V Hawks:
Well like the Roos, it seems the Hawks did not enjoy losing their last game too much and have come out punishing their subsequent opponents in the Ottawa Swans. Without a host of their usual contributors this win would have been just the tonic for the Hawks and they will gain great confidence in this win as they head into a blockbuster game against the Central Blues in Round 10. The Hawks have had an up and down season this year compared to their past couple of seasons where they were one of the most consistent sides in the comp. One has to wonder if this has to do with the departure of former coach Martin Walter. For the Swans despite the loss, they would be pleased to see another improvement for by their scoring department - once again scoring their highest total for the season for the second game in a row. A week off now after playing on the Canada Day weekend will allow them to regroup before they take on Dingos in Round 10 at Humber North. Blues V Rebels:
If missing a star-studded list of Australian imports headlined by Karl Lombardozzi along with Andrew Booth, Matt Dunne, Leon McConville-Brain, Shaun Kentwell and Div 2 Captain Chris Vella wasn't enough of a test - the Blues were also missing the services of Canadian Dynamo Kien La for their game against the Toronto Rebels. This year's batch of Aussies have certainly caused quite a stir amongst some league analysts as being the main reason why the Blues have actually been winning games this year - despite the fact that the Blues have made the finals for the last two seasons running. Let's not forget long-term Blues Aussies in the form of the ever-reliables of Jason Cain and Richard "Richo" Jenner. The combined age of these two fellas might be greater than the combined ages of the aforementioned 7 Aussies - but these guys can still get the job done. You don't often see these two guys lose any 50-50 situations. Anyways with the outs, was yet another great opportunity for the club to disply the depth in their playing list. And display they did. Sean Goedheer who is commonly referred to as "Match Payments" by the Phantom and Jean Grey certainly earned his money (if he was being paid) by kicking the highest number of goals by any Blues player in a game. In a best on ground performance Goedheer kicked 10 goals from 13 attempts to lead his side to a handy victory. The Rebels battled hard all day and struggled to find the right match for Goedheer and the small forward showed what a good crumbing forward can do in this league. For those readers looking to get a more indepth analysis last weekend's footy results (because let's face it - I only make stuff up about all the non-Blues games) check out what the mysterious Jean Grey had to say by clicking HERE. Until you have the pleasure of hearing from me again Adios. Other Results: Ottawa Swans V Guelph Gargoyles:
