Daniel "D-Train" Zimmerman's 50th
Written by BluesNews
Thursday, 13 May 2010
ImageBlues clubman, Daniel "D-Train" Zimmerman will be running out for the 50th time in the Blues jumper this weekend against the Hamilton Wildcats.

D-Train has had a sparkling career since picking up the game after a random encounter with Rob Chapman and former Aussie player Paul Woods after the first ever Blues night out. Legend has it that Woodsy - high on life as usual (and probably liquor) approached D-Train at the corner of University and Dundas at 3am with the opening line of "Don't punch me mate.. but you're pretty big, you wanna play footy?". D-Train has never looked back since.

2006: In his debut season, Zimmerman was named alongside teammate Kien La as joint winners of the OAFL Rookie of the Year Award. D-Train also went on to claim the Blues Rookie of the Year award.

2007: In his second season Zimmerman followed up his Rookie of the Year debut with being named:

  • Blues Defensive Player of the Year
  • OAFL All-Star Player
  • Northwind Squad Member

2008:  Zimmerman was part of the Northwind squad which travelled to Australia to compete in the International Cup in August 2008. That side finished with it's best ever result of 7th overall in the 16 team competition. Once again he was named in the OAFL All-Star team.

2009: Last season saw Zimmerman once again earn his position in the Northwind squad, while also being an integral part of the Blues backline, usually taking the opposition's best forwards.

The 2010 season shapes up to be a big year for Zimmerman as the club has recruited heavily in the off season for a serious tilt at its first OAFL Premiership. Zimmerman will need to be at his very best in being one of the leaders in the Blues backline for the club to achieve the success it craves. Furthermore the Northwind program will be ramping up its preparations in anticipation of the International Cup in 2011 - with Zimmerman hoping to be a part of their plans.

The club would like to congratulate D-Train on this achievement as well as for all his contributions off the field in his role as member of the club executive. D-Train has always been outspoken in how he feels the club should be run, but does not leave it at just words. Always being one of the first willing to roll his sleeves up when the time comes for the work to be done. The Train is also a massive player when it comes to the Blues 5th quarters with one of his best performances coming from this year's Stache bash - where he arrived dressed as Hulk Hogan complete with a dyed blonde moustache to arguably claim BOG for that evening.

The Blues will be out to ensure that they give this loyal club man a 50th game to remember.
