Blues Open 2010 Season with Wins in both divisions
Written by BluesNews

ImageThe Central Blues have opened their 2010 OAFL campaign with wins in both divisions. After a big pre-season which officially started in early February the players have been raring to go and this past weekend obviously could not have come soon enough.

Matched up against traditional rivals the Broadview Hawks, both divisions had their work cut out for them against quality opposition. The Hawks have consistently been one of the strongest clubs in the OAFL and until last season have held it over the Blues since the Blues' entry into the league in 2006. Last season the Blues won their first game against the Hawks before losing their second match up of the season. Both sides went on to make the preliminary finals - before being knocked out by the Eagles and Kangaroos.

The Blues have been busy in the off season acquiring a batch of Australian talent as well and a host of new Canadian faces. The Div 1s had 3 Canadian dedutants in Riley Armstrong, Steve Rutledge, Kevin Callender, with all three players performing exceptionally well in their first real hit out. It's expected that these players will be sniffed out by the Northwind program in no time should they continue to play like they did against the Hawks. As for the Australians, it could be argued that this current crop of Australians may the strongest batch the Blues have seen since joining the club. And given the quality of Australian players who didn't suit up - the club probably has the deepest line up of Aussies in the league.

The Division 2 probably played their best game to date since the Div 2 comp started last year. With the depth of the Blues list so strong, 2010 looks to be an exciting year for the club for the club's Div 2 side - as all the players work hard to try and crack into the Div 1 side.

The Blues Div 1s will face the Hamilton Wildcats who enjoyed an easy win over the Toronto Dingos in blustery conditions. The Wildcats defeated the Blues in both games in 2009 - so there will be no shortage of motivation for the Blues going into this fixture.

While for the Blues Div 2s, they will be tested by the Etobicoke Kangaroos Reserves. The Roos were soundly beaten by the Quebec Saints last weekend and will be keen to come out and make up for their poor showing.
