Written by BluesNews
Sunday, 09 May 2010

Saturday April 24th the Central Blues kicked off their 2010 campaign with a road trip to Montreal for the Ye Olde Orchard Cup pre-season tournament. 10 women made the trip up the 401 to take on eastern Canada rivals the Montreal Angels. The Blues were traveling with 6 first game players and 4 returning players from 2009. In great weather conditions the Blues women had a good warmup and a pregame pep talk from the coach with last minute instructions to try and calm some nerves.

Eagles Destroy Undermanned Blues
Written by BluesNews

ImageIn case there were any doubters out there, the Toronto Eagles have shown in emphatic fashion that they are the REAL DEAL in season 2009. The Eagles were expected by many in the OAFL to have a year which saw them rebuilding their squad and on the way lose their dominating presence amongst the OAFL sides. With a new coach Aaron Falcioni and new game plan - it was expected that there would be some teething issues. If only these expectations were correct. Round 11 might have just turned out to be a Central Blues nightmare which never really happened. Sadly it did. Back in round 2 the Blues gave credence to the expectations of the Eagles rebuilding in 2009 with the Eagles just getting away in the end after the Blues pushed them all match. That game now seems an eternity away. The Blues have now lost three straight games. All to 2009 qualified finalists in the Dingos, Wildcats and now the Eagles.

KP gets a kick off
The Hamilton Wildcats have defeated the Central Blues for the second time in 2009 after a stirring final quarter saw the Wildcats come from behind and hold on to a victory in wet conditions. After a sluggish start from the Blues - it was a miracle that the boys in blue were even still in the game after the Wildcats blew out the first quarter with a 5 goals to 1 effort. There was not much to like in the Blues efforts in the 1st quarter as the Blues midfield seemingly mis-fired - while Wildcats capitalised on an error-ridden Blues outfit.

Junior's attempt for Mark of the Year
The Toronto Dingos put a stop to the Blues 3 game winning streak to comprehensively defeat a disappointing Blues outfit. The Blues were coming into this game having enjoyed a hot streak fo three straight wins - including an upset win against the Broadview Hawks in round 8. Perhaps the club was still celebrating the weekend before - but this loss is surely a reminder that the club is not a good as some think they are. It was easily the club's poorest performance to date this season. There are very few positives to be drawn from this game - as the performances across the board was disappointing with too much work left for too few to take on.

Bruce Parker flies high for a contest
The Central Blues have won their first ever game against OAFL powerhouse the Broadview Hawks. The Blues surprised the Hawks and the crowd to control much of the game after getting off to a tidy start. However the Hawks showed their class late in the game to keep the game alive kicking 4 last quarter goals to get within striking range - but thanks to some disciplined play from the Blues backlines to hold off the fast finishing Hawks for a well deserved win. The final result means the Blues have won three games in a row - hopefully a good sign that they have finally found the consistency that they have been lacking this season. Making this victory even sweeter for the Blues is the fact that the last time these two sides met was in the 2008 pre-liminary final - which saw the Hawks knock the Blues out of their first ever finals series.
