The OAFL season may be over but that certainly hasn't stopped the blues from being busy around town.  We here at bluesnews have been working overtime to get you up to date on all the happenings and gossip at the club.

Firstly, congratulations are in order for Dan 'Dtrain' Zimmerman and Nadia Simard who are now the proud parents of a healthy baby boy.  The Nathaniel 'NateTrain' Zimmerman is already scheduled to arrive at the Central Blues in 2017.  No truth to the rumour that he was yelling 'BAAAALLLLLLLL' or "How far Umpire?" as he was being born.

Next up was a very successful Grand Final Party hosted by the club last month at its new sponsor pub, Shoeless Joe's on Spadina.  It was the 6th annual grand final party hosted by the club and the best one yet with over 150 people watching the Geelong Cats upset the hated Collingwood Magpies in a great game.  A great time was had by all but none moreso than huge cats fan, Ewan 'Obi' Williams.  It was the first time I've seen a grown man cry since Bulldog and Hollywood after last year's granny win.  See below for photos from the night.

The blues have also been busy on the track with many starting their off season training early.  Mel Billings recently completed her first half marathon in a time of 1:55.  Congrats to you Mel.  Rene Tong couldn't get enough footy even after competing at the International Cup so she traveled to Austin, Texas to compete at the U.S. Footy Nationals.  She played for the Columbus Jillaroos who had traveled up to Toronto earlier this summer to play a game against the lady blues.

The men have also been busy with the blues entering a team in the TSSC Basketball League.  The team is off to a flying start and is undefeated through 4 games.  The team is led by Riley 'Vossy' Armstrong and Kien 'Keno' La, and also includes 2 new blues recruits, Vossy's friends Adam Desprey and Brent Bogucki.  Making up the numbers is Shaun 'Shagger' Kentwell who is greatly valued for his 6 fouls a game.  Winter Shinny (pickup hockey) will also start soon so be on the lookout for that.  It will be a good chance to skate circles around the aussies and make fun of them.  Dave 'Fritzy' Whittington, Damien 'Damo' Mcdonald and Daniel 'Willsy' Wills have also been undergoing endurance training for the 5th quarter.  They have been frequently spotted at Afterhours at 5 am before heading into work.

In overseas news, 2 premiership players will be returning to the blues in November.  Kyle 'Doc' Docherty and the bootman, Andrew Booth will be arriving at Grace O'Malley's on Nov1.  Market Analysts have been recommending a BUY on pharmaceutical companies but that is probably just a coincidence .  Arnold 'Gov' Quirong and Victor 'Ocho' Cinco will also be returning home in Dec after being in Australia since March.  They have both played a whole year with the Rovers U19 team and the club is excited to see their development.  After starring in the International Cup for Canada, Ocho was noticed by AFL scouts and is currently going through preseason training with VFL team Sandringham Dragons.  The club also said goodbyes to 2 players for next year.  Derek 'George' MacDonald has left us to Australia for a year (tentatively) to travel and play footy.  He is currently on his phone twittering in a hostel in St. Kilda.  Steve 'Snorkel' Rutledge has driven back to Edmonton to get his windshield fixed.  He will be kinda missed but his car will be sorely missed as he was Kenny '2 Cups' Wong's personal chauffeur.

Next up on the Blues Calendar is the Blues Mens Footy trip this coming weekend.  Past footy trips have included Montreal, Chicago, Vegas, Austin, and New Orleans.  This year the boys will be hitting up Halifax.  Early betting on the downlow has Vossy as a big favorite and Damo as second favorite.  After that shitshow, will be a more classy affair the Blues Award Night Oct 28 at 7pm at sponsor pub Shoeless Joes.  This night is a celebration and recognition of all the hard work and contributions that many have made to the club both on the field and off during the past season.  It is sure to be an awesome night (who can forget Vossy's speech last year, probably only Vossy actually) so try to be there.  Spouses, mistresses, girlfriends, boyfriends, penpals and twitter followers are all welcomed and encouraged to come along.

There is also rumour of a bus trip to Niagara falls sometime in Nov and then the annual Blues Christmas Dinner at D2's on Dec 17.  So stay tuned for those.  Until next time...Bluesnews Out.
